JSK Seals Playoffs Spot with Bonus-Point Win over PR
The Joburg Super Kings secured their place in the SA20 playoffs with a thrilling 45-run bonus-point victory over the Paarl Royals in the final league match at Boland Park. This result not only solidified their fourth-place finish but also eliminated Durban's Super Giants from contention.
The playoff scenario now sets up an intriguing rematch between these two teams in the Eliminator. Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who topped the table, will face the Pretoria Capitals in Qualifier 1.
Opting to bat first on a slow pitch, the Super Kings got off to a steady start but struggled to gain momentum against the opposition's slow bowling. However, Leus du Plooy's late surge transformed their innings. He smashed an unbeaten 54 off 27 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, with a flurry of runs in the final two overs, swinging the momentum in the visitors' favor.
Earlier, Neil Timmers and Michael Pepper provided a solid foundation for the Super Kings after the early dismissal of captain James Vince for a duck. Timmers contributed 39 runs, while Pepper added 27, but the middle overs lacked urgency. That changed when du Plooy unleashed his power-hitting, hitting two sixes and a boundary off Waqar Salamkheil in the 19th over. Dian Forrester then sealed the deal with another six, giving the total a decisive boost.
The Paarl Royals began their chase steadily, but the absence of captain David Miller due to injury put them under pressure. Prenelan Subrayen and Imran Tahir made the most of the conditions, combining to take five wickets for just 31 runs. Lhuan-dre Pretorius showed intent with 32 runs, and Dan Lawrence kept the chase alive with a brisk 45 off 29 balls.
However, Tahir's precision in removing key batters at crucial moments and Subrayen's tight bowling from the other end proved decisive. The Royals lost seven wickets for 41 runs and were eventually bowled out for 122, resulting in a 45-run defeat.
Final scores: Joburg Super Kings 166/5 (Leus du Plooy 54*, Neil Timmers 37) beat Paarl Royals 122 all out (Dan Lawrence 45; Prenelan Subrayen 3-14, Imran Tahir 2-17) by 45 runs.
